Specialized Therapy for OCD, Anxiety & Related Disorders
Evidence-based, collaborative care — for individuals ready to heal, and clinicians ready to lead.
About Dr. Fran Kuehn
Dr. Fran Kuehn, DSW, LICSW, M.Ed., Diplomate A-CBT, is a cognitive behavioral therapist with a private practice in Newton Center, MA, specializing in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders, anxiety disorders, and phobias.
With decades of clinical and academic experience — including a long tenure as a school social worker at Brookline High School and a faculty role at Simmons University — Dr. Kuehn brings both depth and warmth to his work. His doctoral research focused on training clinicians in evidence-based approaches to OCD treatment, with a particular emphasis on Inference-Based Cognitive Therapy (I-CBT).
Dr. Kuehn's approach to treatment is rooted in a simple conviction: healing should restore who you are, not ask you to endure more suffering to get there. His practice integrates Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I-CBT — an emerging, highly promising approach that treats OCD at its root by rebuilding trust in one's own sense of self.
He is a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, and a professional member of the International OCD Foundation and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.
For Individuals
You don’t have to keep fighting your own mind.
OCD and anxiety disorders are among the most misunderstood and undertreated conditions in mental health — not because effective treatments don't exist, but because finding a clinician with true specialization can be incredibly difficult.
Dr. Kuehn offers individual therapy for adults experiencing:
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and OC-related disorders
Generalized and social anxiety
Phobias and anxiety sensitivity
Treatment is collaborative, evidence-based, and — importantly — designed to be as free from unnecessary distress as possible. Rather than simply exposing you to feared situations, Dr. Kuehn works with you to understand and address the underlying reasoning patterns that drive OCD and anxiety, allowing you to reclaim confidence in your own perception and judgment.
Sessions are available in person in Newton Center, MA on Tuesdays, and virtually throughout the week. The practice is private pay; a sliding scale fee structure is available based on resources.
For Clinicians
Expand your expertise in OCD treatment — with an approach that's evidence-based, non-exposure-based, and deeply client-centered.
There is a significant gap in the mental health field when it comes to OCD. Many clinicians are either unfamiliar with the condition's nuances, uncertain how to implement effective treatment, or understandably reluctant to use traditional exposure-based methods with their clients.
Dr. Kuehn offers professional training and consultation in Inference-Based Cognitive Therapy (I-CBT) — a non-exposure approach to treating OCD that addresses the disorder at its core by helping clients rebuild trust in their own sense of self and perception. His doctoral research demonstrated that structured training in I-CBT can significantly increase clinician self-efficacy, confidence, and motivation to work with OCD clients.
Sessions are available in person in Newton Center, MA on Tuesdays, and virtually throughout the week. The practice is private pay; a sliding scale fee structure is available based on resources. Workshops are also available.
